Nyahallo Drama: The Real Tea
If you’ve landed here from Google after searching “Nyahallo drama,” welcome. I’m writing this post to clarify some rumors and misinformation that have circulated about me and my brand, Nyahallo, over the past few years. It’s important for me to be transparent so customers and supporters have the full truth directly from me. I believe honesty and openness are the foundation of trust and Nyahallo has always been built on those values.
It’s Mostly Me vs. Fabric
Running a small indie fashion brand sounds cute until you’re ugly-crying at 2 a.m. because a zipper came in the wrong shade of black. Or because the sample had floppy fox ears and I had to send 10 annotated photos titled FIX THE EARS 🦊
There is a lot of love in what I do. There is also a lot of mess. Delays. Miscommunications. A deep existential crisis over button placement. The drama behind Nyahallo is rarely scandal. It is usually just me and my co-designer screaming (affectionately) at pixels and stitches.
Preorders, Patience, and Production Chaos
Nyahallo runs on a preorder model. That means every piece is made intentionally, in small batches, often before we even get the final sample. It is risky. It is also how we avoid overproduction and waste.
But it is not always smooth. Sometimes manufacturing takes longer. Sometimes I make a decision and then change it because I want the product to be better. I know waiting is frustrating. I never rush art just to get something out.
It’s true that I’ve had significant delays in the past. I’m a small business still growing, and sometimes things take longer than expected due to production challenges, fabric sourcing, or re-sampling items until I’m satisfied with the quality. I would rather delay an item than ship something that doesn’t meet my standards. I’m working hard to improve communication and timelines, and as of July 2025 I began to share weekly updates.
Clarifying My Preorder Process
I also want to address another point of confusion I’ve seen online: misunderstandings about Nyahallo’s pre-order times. Some people have assumed delays or problems because they didn’t fully understand how my pre-order system works.
To clarify: Nyahallo operates on a pre-order model for many items because I produce small batches and want to avoid overproduction and waste. Pre-orders often have estimated shipping windows, and sometimes production or shipping can take longer due to fabric sourcing, manufacturing adjustments, or quality checks.
Since noticing the confusion, I’ve written new posts explaining how my preorder system works in detail. If anyone has questions or concerns about their order or my pre-order process, I’m always happy to help. Please feel free to contact us!
The Internet Said What Now?
Yes, I’ve seen the Reddit threads. The weird assumptions. The gossip. In a world full of scammy brands, caution is smart. But I promise you, I’m not here to take anyone’s money and run. I’m here to make clothes that mean something.
I also want to acknowledge that delays and my preorder model have led some customers to assume or speculate that my shop might be a scam. As a consumer myself, I completely understand where that fear comes from. There are many untrustworthy sites out there, but mine is not one of them. I’m just a small brand trying to do better every day.
And yes, I agree that my wait times have sometimes been too long. That’s one of the reasons I’ve decided to mostly phase out pre-sample pre-orders, also known as design-phase pre-orders.
Addressing False Accusations About Nyahallo
And while we are here, yes, I know there have been accusations. I was accused of copying another creator’s brand for years, mostly by them and people in their circle. It has been exhausting and painful, especially because I started Nyahallo to express things that were deeply personal to me. Not to chase every trend. Not to imitate anyone.
Nyahallo is not just my voice. It is also shaped by my co-designer and the freelance artists I collaborate with. When people accuse the brand of being unoriginal or insincere, they are not just questioning me. They are casting doubt on a group of creatives who put real thought and heart into this work.
As a Chinese Canadian woman building something from the heart, I’ve often been reduced, questioned, or dismissed before my work even speaks for itself. People make assumptions about me before they even see my work. It feels like no matter how original or heartfelt my designs are, some people are quick to assume I borrowed what I actually built. That hurts. Not just as a designer, but as a person.
I would never intentionally take someone else’s work. Every design I make comes from my own sketches, memories, heartbreaks, and dreams. I have always stayed in my lane, even when others did not.
Drama gets clicks. People love a good villain. But I am just a designer trying to make art that feels like home. Not someone looking to step on anyone else’s story.
My Statement Regarding Rumors About Nyahallo
Over the past several years, another brand has publicly discouraged people from following or supporting Nyahallo, including sharing an Instagram story urging others not to support my brand, and spreading false and negative information about Nyahallo's business practices. These statements, which include unverified claims of being "unethical," are not true and in my personal experience and opinion, appear to be a deliberate attempt to portray our business unfairly. Negative statements about me and my brand have also appeared on platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Reddit during the same approximate timeframe.
While we cannot speak to the intent behind individual actions, we have noted the active engagement, including "likes" and endorsements, by the other brand's owner and associated individuals on social media posts that contain negative commentary about Nyahallo. We believe this behavior has significantly contributed to the proliferation of misinformation regarding our brand.
For example, a baseless rumor has been circulating claiming that we have a poor reputation as a vendor at artist alleys or conventions. This claim is verifiably false: Nyahallo has never exhibited or vended at any convention or artist alley. This particular rumor appears to originate from an anonymous account specifically dedicated to spreading negative commentary about our brand.
For a long time, I chose not to respond publicly to these rumors, hoping the situation would fade on its own. However, over the years, the other brand has made statements that, in my opinion, have misrepresented me and my brand, and may still be causing harm to my reputation. As a result, I feel I have no choice but to share my side of the story publicly to clarify the facts and address the misunderstandings that have arisen.
Because of this ongoing situation, there has been significant online interest and searches related to both my brand and the other brand involved. This is why people may come across discussions or search results mentioning “Nyahallo drama” or similar topics.
I shared more about the situation I've been experiencing on
Reddit, since several anonymous accounts on Reddit have spread false claims about me, often posting in threads where I’m mentioned. Since many of these rumors began there, I’m choosing to reclaim my voice and share my side directly.
This clarification is provided not to escalate conflict, but purely to protect the integrity and truth behind the Nyahallo brand and our work. We stand firmly behind our commitment to quality and ethics. We encourage our community to disregard these misleading external claims and judge us by the beautiful, unique designs we create for you.
This clarifying statement will remain in place until the external issues it addresses are fully resolved.
My Commitment to Originality and Ethics
Although these baseless rumors and accusations have caused significant personal and professional stress and have regrettably impacted public perception, we remain fully dedicated to our work and our valued customers.
Brand Independence & Originality: Nyahallo operates entirely independently and has no business relationship or affiliation with any other brand(s). Every Nyahallo design is created and documented in-house, from the initial concept to the final product. We are immensely proud of our originality and the meticulous care we put into our work.

If You’re New Here
Hello! I'm Jen, a Chinese Canadian 1.5 immigrant woman, a dreamer, and the founder of Nyahallo. I started this brand out of a personal need: I couldn't find clothes that truly reflected my spirit -- clothing that was whimsical, heartfelt, a little strange, and soft, yet resilient.
Nyahallo is an artist-run, small-batch business that is unapologetically emotionally driven. And I am incredibly proud of that.

TL;DR:
The Heart of Nyahallo: Originality and Integrity
I, Jen, founded Nyahallo to create something deeply personal and emotionally authentic. Over the years, I have unfortunately faced public and damaging accusations from a competitor that fundamentally misrepresent my work and our brand.
More Than Just a Brand: Nyahallo is built with dedication by myself, my co-designer, and the freelance artists I collaborate with. Questioning the integrity of the brand is questioning an entire team of creatives. As a Chinese Canadian woman, I have often felt the sting of being stereotyped or dismissed before my work is even seen. I assure you that every single design is original, born from my own ideas, memories, and personal experiences.
Our Purpose: This page was created to address the ongoing rumors and allegations, which is in my opinion largely stemming from another brand and to clarify any speculation regarding the legitimacy of our original work. At the end of the day, I am an artist committed to creating something meaningful and beautiful for our community.
