Nyahallo Drama: The Real Tea

Nyahallo Drama: The Real Tea

If you’ve landed here from Google after searching “Nyahallo drama,” welcome. I’m writing this post to clarify some rumors and misinformation that have circulated about me and my brand, Nyahallo, over the past few years. It’s important for me to be transparent so customers and supporters have the full truth directly from me. I believe honesty and openness are the foundation of trust and Nyahallo has always been built on those values.

It’s Mostly Me vs. Fabric

Running a small indie fashion brand sounds cute until you’re ugly-crying at 2 a.m. because a zipper came in the wrong shade of black. Or because the sample had floppy fox ears and I had to send 10 annotated photos titled FIX THE EARS 🦊

There is a lot of love in what I do. There is also a lot of mess. Delays. Miscommunications. A deep existential crisis over button placement. The drama behind Nyahallo is rarely scandal. It is usually just me and my co-designer screaming (affectionately) at pixels and stitches.

Preorders, Patience, and Production Chaos

Nyahallo runs on a preorder model. That means every piece is made intentionally, in small batches, often before we even get the final sample. It is risky. It is also how we avoid overproduction and waste.

But it is not always smooth. Sometimes manufacturing takes longer. Sometimes I make a decision and then change it because I want the product to be better. I know waiting is frustrating. I never rush art just to get something out.

It’s true that I’ve had significant delays in the past. I’m a small business still growing, and sometimes things take longer than expected due to production challenges, fabric sourcing, or re-sampling items until I’m satisfied with the quality. I would rather delay an item than ship something that doesn’t meet my standards. I’m working hard to improve communication and timelines, and as of July 2025 I began to share weekly updates.

Clarifying My Preorder Process

I also want to address another point of confusion I’ve seen online: misunderstandings about Nyahallo’s pre-order times. Some people have assumed delays or problems because they didn’t fully understand how my pre-order system works.

To clarify: Nyahallo operates on a pre-order model for many items because I produce small batches and want to avoid overproduction and waste. Pre-orders often have estimated shipping windows, and sometimes production or shipping can take longer due to fabric sourcing, manufacturing adjustments, or quality checks.

Since noticing the confusion, I’ve written new posts explaining how my preorder system works in detail. If anyone has questions or concerns about their order or my pre-order process, I’m always happy to help. Please feel free to contact us!

The Internet Said What Now?

Yes, I’ve seen the Reddit threads. The weird assumptions. The gossip. In a world full of scammy brands, caution is smart. But I promise you, I’m not here to take anyone’s money and run. I’m here to make clothes that mean something.
I also want to acknowledge that delays and my preorder model have led some customers to assume or speculate that my shop might be a scam. As a consumer myself, I completely understand where that fear comes from. There are many untrustworthy sites out there, but mine is not one of them. I’m just a small brand trying to do better every day.
And yes, I agree that my wait times have sometimes been too long. That’s one of the reasons I’ve decided to mostly phase out pre-sample pre-orders, also known as design-phase pre-orders.

Addressing False Accusations About Nyahallo

And while we are here, yes, I know there have been accusations. I was accused of copying another creator’s brand for years, mostly by them and people in their circle. It has been exhausting and painful, especially because I started Nyahallo to express things that were deeply personal to me. Not to chase every trend. Not to imitate anyone.

Nyahallo is not just my voice. It is also shaped by my co-designer and the freelance artists I collaborate with. When people accuse the brand of being unoriginal or insincere, they are not just questioning me. They are casting doubt on a group of creatives who put real thought and heart into this work.

As a Chinese Canadian woman building something from the heart, I’ve often been reduced, questioned, or dismissed before my work even speaks for itself. People make assumptions about me before they even see my work. It feels like no matter how original or heartfelt my designs are, some people are quick to assume I borrowed what I actually built. That hurts. Not just as a designer, but as a person.

I would never intentionally take someone else’s work. Every design I make comes from my own sketches, memories, heartbreaks, and dreams. I have always stayed in my lane, even when others did not.

Drama gets clicks. People love a good villain. But I am just a designer trying to make art that feels like home. Not someone looking to step on anyone else’s story.

My Statement Regarding Rumors About Nyahallo

Over the past several years, another brand has publicly discouraged people from following or supporting Nyahallo, including sharing an Instagram story urging others not to support me. They have also made negative statements about me and my brand on social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Reddit.
Individuals within their circle have, in my view, contributed to amplifying these rumors, spreading them further and creating confusion and misunderstandings about my brand. They have also liked negative comments about me on social media, helping perpetuate untrue statements and repeating false claims without evidence.
One example is the rumor that I have a “horrible reputation” as a vendor at artist alleys. This claim appears to originate from an anonymous Reddit account whose sole purpose seems to be posting negative information about me. These statements are completely false -- I have never sold at any artist alley or convention.
I have also received messages from people who contacted the other brand directly and were told negative things about me or my business. In my view, these statements are not true and have contributed to misunderstandings about Nyahallo.
For a long time, I chose not to respond publicly to these rumors, hoping the situation would fade on its own. However, over the years, the other brand has made statements that, in my opinion, have misrepresented me and my brand, and may still be causing harm to my reputation. As a result, I feel I have no choice but to share my side of the story publicly to clarify the facts and address the misunderstandings that have arisen.
Because of this ongoing situation, there has been significant online interest and searches related to both my brand and the other brand involved. This is why people may come across discussions or search results mentioning “Nyahallo drama” or similar topics.

My Commitment to Originality and Ethics

These rumors and accusations have caused significant stress for me personally and have impacted how people perceive my brand. Despite these challenges, I remain dedicated to my work and my customers.

Nyahallo has no business relationship or affiliation with this other brand and operates entirely independently. Every Nyahallo design is created in-house and documented from concept to final product. I’m proud of my originality and the care I put into my work, and I stand firmly behind the ethics of my brand.

If You’re New Here

I am Jen. I am Chinese Canadian. I started Nyahallo because I could not find clothes that felt like me. Whimsical, heartfelt, a little strange, soft but not fragile.

This brand is artist run, small-batch, and emotionally loud. And I am proud of that.

TL;DR:

I started Nyahallo to create something deeply personal and emotionally real. Over the years, I’ve faced public accusations from another brand that misrepresent what I do. Nyahallo is built with care by me, my co-designer, and the freelance artists I collaborate with, and questioning the brand means questioning an entire team of creatives. As a Chinese Canadian woman, I’ve often been stereotyped and dismissed before people even see my work. Every design I make comes from my own ideas, memories, and experiences. This page was created to address the allegations made about me by the other brand, as well as speculation about whether my brand is legitimate. I’m just trying to make art that feels like home.
